Vision and Values

WIEC seeks to be a church that is:

  • Living and serving to glorify God
  • For all ages and nationalities
  • That is evangelical (defined by the good news of Jesus) and evangelistic (sharing the good news of Jesus)
  • Knowing both the truth of the Scriptures and the power of the Spirit
  • Of the 21st century
  • Holding Biblical principles in a contemporary way
  • Reaching standards of excellence in all areas
  • Giving priority to gospel outreach
  • Seeking to focus on the five elements of Acts 2:42 (mission, learning, fellowship, worship and prayer)
  1. Mission: to be a church that prioritises and prevails in people being regularly saved in significant numbers through a well-focused range of activities, engaging in outreach and social ministries within the immediate area of Caldmore, reaching out into Walsall Town Centre via the Bridge ministry, giving at least 10% of income to a missionary budget with regular trips and projects operating in all Continents and missionaries sent from the church.
  2. Learning: to be a church that has excellent Sunday Bible teaching; weekly discipleship training opportunities for new and mature Christians: a leadership track; student and assistant ministers.
  3. Fellowship: to be a church that meets mid-week in small house groups providing the main pastoral care; engaging in national gospel unity via Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches and local co-operation with Caldmore and Walsall churches.
  4. Worship: to be a church that knows and enjoys the presence of God through a contemporary and celebratory expression of praise.
  5. Prayer: to be a church that enters the spiritual arena through weeks of prayer inspiring our regular meetings and prayer ministry.
History

WIEC was formed in 1930 with healing and evangelistic meetings in Walsall Town Hall by the early Pentecostalist Edward Jeffreys (Bethel Evangelistic Society). The first church was known as the Temple, Queen Street before moving in 1964 and being renamed as Beechdale Evangelical Church. In 1996 the church then relocated to its present base at the Bath Street Centre and being called Walsall Independent Evangelical Church.

What we Practise

WIEC practices have changed over the years, but in our present expression as a community we can be defined as a church that is not only shaped by the Bible, but is also open to the activity of the Holy Spirit. Our desire is to unite in the gospel, teach the truth, reach out to those outside the church, enjoy the presence of God; praise him enthusiastically; pray effectively and care for one another.
